Ninth-ranked Caciques (9-17) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Leones (15-13) in Humacao on Saturday. The visitors from Juana Diaz managed to secure only two-point victory 88-86. However their fans expected easier game. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 2 points. Leones shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Dominican Victor Liz (193-86, agency: Basket Management Solutions) fired 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Haylett Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 assists and the former international center Peter Ramos (222-85) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Caciques' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Leones have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Caciques lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with 17 games lost. Leones will meet at home Indios (#8) in the next round. Caciques will play against the league's leader Santeros and hope to secure a win.
