Regular Season Round 5: Soles SD - Caneros LR 89-98

Date: June 10, 2017
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Santo Domingo where 6th ranked Soles SD (2-4) was defeated by seventh ranked Caneros LR (2-4) 98-89 on Saturday. Caneros LR outrebounded Soles SD 51-36 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) who scored 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Austin Freeman (194-89, college: Georgetown) chipped in 20 points. Puerto Rican guard Hector Maldonado (185-91, agency: Basket Management Solutions) produced 32 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Arnold Louis (201-90, college: Savannah St., agency: HMS) added 20 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Caneros LR moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Soles SD. Caneros LR will face league's second-placed Indios SFM in San Francisco in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Soles SD will play on the road against Reales LV in La Vega and hope to win that game.
