Regular Season Round 32: Ponce - Mayaguez 77-73

There was no surprise in Juana Diaz where 8th ranked Indios (10-17) were defeated by fourth ranked Leones (16-13) 77-73 on Tuesday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Indios won third quarter 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leones made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Leones outrebounded Indios 41-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international forward Carlos Emory (196-91) who added 15 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. American Tony Mitchell (198-89, college: Alabama) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds and international Devon Collier (203-91, college: Oregon St.) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Indios' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Leones have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 16-13 record. Loser Indios dropped to the ninth place with 17 games lost. Leones will meet league's leader Santeros in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Indios will play against Caciques (#10) in Humacao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
