Regular Season Round 6: Leones SD - Huracanes PP 77-80

Leading Leones SD (6-2) recorded its second loss in Santo Domingo. Hosts were edged by fifth ranked Huracanes PP (3-4) 80-77. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Leones SD. It looked good early as Leones SD took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Huracanes PP had a 23-16 second period charge getting the lead and Leones SD was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-80. Huracanes PP forced 19 Leones SD turnovers. Nigerian-Jamaican swingman Weyinmi Rose (196-86, college: Providence) scored 23 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized American guard Maurice Carter (183-83, college: Robert Morris) chipped in 20 points during the contest. Huracanes PP's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was naturalized American MJ Rhett (206-92, college: Mississippi) with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Travis Daniels (202-92, college: Mississippi St.) scored 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Huracanes PP moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Caneros LR. Defending champion Leones SD still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Metros STGO. Huracanes PP will play against Caneros LR (#4) in La Romana in the next round. Leones SD will play on the road against Indios SFM in San Francisco and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
