Regular Season Round 36: Quebradillas - Bayamon 80-91

The most important game in the last round took place in Quebradillas between third ranked Piratas (18-14) and eighth ranked Vaqueros (14-19) on Wednesday night. Piratas were defeated by Vaqueros at home 80-91. The game was mostly controlled by Vaqueros. Piratas managed to win third quarter 28-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Vaqueros won last quarter 26-16. 25 personal fouls committed by Piratas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91, agency: Paris Global Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Vaqueros players scored in double figures. Vaqueros' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) replied with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international center Jorge-Bryan Diaz (210-89, college: Nebraska) added 19 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Piratas. Vaqueros moved-up to seventh place. Piratas lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third position with 14 games lost. Vaqueros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Piratas will play on the road against Leones in Juana Diaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
