Regular Season Round 40: Aguada - Quebradillas 74-81

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Santeros (24-11) in Coamo on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Piratas (20-15) 81-74. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Santeros. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 41-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Piratas dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Santeros' 26. Strangely Santeros outrebounded Piratas 45-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Piratas made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 6 rebounds and forward Luis Hernandez (198-88) who added 14 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side naturalized American forward Jose Guitian (207-87, college: Lasell) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and international Chris Gaston (201-89, college: Fordham) scored 8 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas maintains third position with 20-15 record having four points less than leader Aguada. Santeros at the other side still keep top place with 11 games lost.
