Regular Season Round 3: Henan - Hebei X. 125-122

A very interesting game took place in Henan. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of Hebei X. (0-3) to Henan (2-1) 125-122 on Friday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 5-point deficit before their 33-25 run, which allowed them to win the game. Henan dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Hebei X.'s 52 and made 26-of-34 charity shots (76.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Hebei X. 54-43 including 19 on the offensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Hebei X. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for American-Nigerian center Chris Otule (211-90, college: Marquette) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 21 rebounds. Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) accounted for 35 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (went 14 for 14 at the free throw line !!!) for the winning side. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) came up with a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 17 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) added 26 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Hebei X. in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Henan's next round opponent will be Beijing (#10) at home which should be theoretically an easy game. Hebei X. will play against Luoyang and hopes to get finally their first victory.
