The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Cyclones' (4-8) road loss to ninth ranked Pirates (4-6) 78-92 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Pirates. Cyclones was better in third quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Pirates forced 25 Cyclones turnovers and outrebounded them 45-31 including a 23-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Stephanie Bairstow (188-94, college: Utah St.) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 9 rebounds and American center Shelby Cheslek (196-92, college: Gonzaga) who added 19 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Four Pirates players scored in double figures. At the losing side American Shanavia Dowdell (188-87, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: LBM Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals and Christina Boag scored 25 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Pirates maintains ninth position in League with 4-6 record. Loser Cyclones keep the tenth place with eight games lost. Pirates will face higher ranked Capitals (#8) in Brisbane in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cyclones will play against SC Rip and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
