Regular Season Round 15: Caneros LR - Soles SD 111-106

Date: July 2, 2017
No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Caneros LR (9-8) beat bottom-ranked Soles SD (3-13) in La Romana 111-106 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Caneros LR outrebounded Soles SD 49-36 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) who led the winners and scored 35 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). His fellow American import guard Austin Freeman (194-89, college: Georgetown) accounted for 20 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side. Power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) came up with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Carl Hall (202-89, college: Wichita St., agency: HMS) added 21 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Soles SD in the defeat. Five Soles SD players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Caneros LR maintains fourth place with 9-8 record. Loser Soles SD stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Caneros LR will meet Leones SD (#6) in the next round. Soles SD will play against Titanes Licey and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
