Ponce held off Arecibo in the opener. The hosts trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 27-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Leones made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican Victor Liz (193-86, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Leones' coach Nelson Colon used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) answered with 18 points and the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Capitanes. Four Capitanes players scored in double figures.
