The game between fourth ranked Caneros LR (9-8) and 5th ranked Leones SD (7-10) in La Romana on Monday ended with biggest points difference. Caneros LR beat guests from Santo Domingo 98-88. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 98-88. Caneros LR made 30-of-35 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Leones SD only scored eleven points from the stripe. It was a quality performance for American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) who led the winners and scored 38 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). His fellow American import guard Austin Freeman (194-89, college: Georgetown) accounted for 15 points for the winning side. Caneros LR's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Naturalized Spanish center Jhonatan Araujo (208-96, agency: Basket Management Solutions) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and forward Juan Guerrero (201-93, agency: Basket Management Solutions) added 18 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for Leones SD in the defeat. Four Leones SD players scored in double figures. Caneros LR maintains fourth place with 9-8 record. Defending champion Leones SD keeps the fifth position with ten games lost.
