Regular Season Round 8: Guizhou - Hebei X. 126-107

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Guizhou as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Fujian) loss. Guizhou smashed 12th ranked Hebei X. at home 126-107. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hebei X.. The game was mostly controlled by Guizhou. Hebei X. was better in second period 30-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Guizhou dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Hebei X.'s 50 and made 30-of-34 charity shots (88.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Hebei X. 56-44 including a 41-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hebei X. was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Central African-American power forward James Mays (206-86, college: Clemson) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and American point guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona, agency: Higher Vision Sports) supported him with 31 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Even a double-double of 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists by American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) did not help to save the game for Hebei X.. His fellow American import forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) added 17 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guizhou have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Henan. Hebei X. at the other side dropped to the eleventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Beijing. Hebei X. will play next round against Fujian trying to get back on the winning streak. Guizhou will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Henan on the road.
