Regular Season Round 21: Geelong S. - Sandringham S. 86-84

A very interesting game took place in Geelong. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Sabres (10-11) to fourth ranked Geelong Supercats (13-9) 86-84 in the game for the fourth place. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sabres won third quarter 27-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Geelong Supercats players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Power forward MaAlo Hicks (201-89) nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and American center Eric Gaff (208-87, college: Grace Coll.) accounted for 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Geelong Supercats' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Jerry Evans (203-90, college: Nevada) came up with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Igor Hadziomerovic (193-92, college: Boise St.) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Sabres in the defeat. Five Geelong Supercats and four Sabres players scored in double figures. Geelong Supercats maintains fourth place in League with 13-9 record which they share with defeated Sabres. Sabres at the other side keep the fourth position with 11 games lost. Geelong Supercats' next round opponent will be league's leader Spectres in East Burwood and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sabres will play at home against the league's second-placed Chargers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
