Regular Season Round 18: Escazu - Barva 62-52

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in San Jose. Third ranked Escazu faced second-best Barva. Host Escazu (12-3) defeated guests from Barva (12-4) 62-52. The game was mostly controlled by Escazu. Barva managed to win fourth quarter 20-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Escazu forced 22 Barva turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Kay Martinez (198-84, college: Jackson St.) who scored 22 points and 6 rebounds. American power forward Julius Brooks (206-90, college: Loyola, MD) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Escazu's coach Nicolas Marin used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Panamanian Amir Alvarado (198-84, college: Marshalltown CC) who recorded 13 points and 8 rebounds and the former international forward David Shedden (197-95) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Escazu have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 12-3 record having five points less than leader ARBA. Defending champion Barva keeps the second place with four games lost.
