Second Stage Round 4: Leones SD - Caneros LR 97-87

Round 4 in LNB means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Santo Domingo where host Leones SD (4-2) beat league's leader Caneros LR (2-3) 97-87 on Wednesday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Leones SD. Caneros LR managed to win third quarter 27-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Leones SD won last quarter 27-18. They made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game, while Caneros LR only scored seven points from the stripe. American point guard Patrick Miller (185-92, college: Tennessee St.) fired 16 points and 8 assists for the winners. The other American import swingman Omar Reed (200-87, college: Bluefield, agency: Haylett Sports) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. Five Leones SD players scored in double figures. American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) produced 30 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and Elias Soliman added 12 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Caneros LR's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Leones SD have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 4-2 record. Caneros LR at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with Titanes Licey. They were replaced at the leadership position by Leones SD. Caneros LR will play next round against strong Titanes Licey trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Leones SD will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Caneros LR in La Romana.
