The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Leones SD (5-3) in La Romana on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Caneros LR (3-4) 111-105. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Leones SD trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 32-27 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 105-111 at the end of the game. Caneros LR made 32-of-36 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game, while Leones SD only scored fifteen points from the stripe. Strangely Leones SD outrebounded Caneros LR 47-35 including a 24-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Caneros LR especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Leones SD helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Scott Rodgers (191-87, college: Drexel, agency: DTMones) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). His fellow American import Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Caneros LR's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Patrick Miller (185-92, college: Tennessee St.) answered with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and naturalized American swingman Sadiel Rojas (197-89, college: Okla.Wesleyan) added 16 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Leones SD. Five Caneros LR and four Leones SD players scored in double figures. Caneros LR moved-up to second place, which they share with Titanes Licey. Defending champion Leones SD still keeps top position with three games lost.
