Cuba opened win count in Buenos Aires. They topped Mexico in the final game of the preliminary round. Ineidis Casanova stepped up with 16 points and 9 assists for the winning side. Mexico enjoyed a 25:23 halftime advantage. But Cuba used a 22:9 rally in the third term to spur ahead. They protected the advantage throughout the final stanza and eased to the victory. Anisleidys Galindo and Francy Ochoa had 12 points each for the winners. Jacqueline Luna and Gabriela Saad tossed in 11 points each for Mexico.
