Regular Season Round 7: Guatemala - Halcones 52-49

A very close game took place in between Guatemala and Halcones. Fifth ranked Guatemala (4-5) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked Halcones (1-9). Guatemala managed to escape with a 3-point win 52-49 on Saturday evening. Guatemala held Halcones to an opponent 23.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 26.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Guatemala forced 19 Halcones turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Guatemala made 7 blocks. Guatemalan forward Cynthia Rivera (177-82) fired a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Guatemalan point guard Nathaly Pinelo (167-99) chipped in 5 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. American guard Tracey Parsons (170, college: Cent.Arkansas) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds and the other American import center Wende Foster (196, college: Livingstone, agency: Gamble Sports Management) added 11 points, 11 rebounds and 9 blocks respectively for lost side. Halcones' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Guatemala moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Santiago de Maria. Halcones lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Guatemala will meet at home higher ranked Rapido (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Halcones will play against L.M.Mons. (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
