Regular Season Round 7: Alghero - Empoli 50-84

Everything went according to plan when leader Empoli (6-0) outleveled on the road 15th ranked Alghero (1-6) 84-50. Empoli held Alghero to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 51.6 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Alghero 43-28 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Empoli brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for guard Greta Brunelli (176-90) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Czech center Klara Pochobradska (186-89, agency: SPORTlab Agency) accounted for 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Empoli's coach Alessio Cioni felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) came up with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Bulgarian forward Veronika Dzhikova (178-90) added 11 points respectively for Alghero in the defeat. Empoli keeps a position of A2 leader. Alghero at the other side keeps the fifteenth place with six games lost. Empoli's next round opponent will be Forli (#13) at home which should be another easy win for them. Alghero will play against Bologna and hope to win that game.
