Regular Season Round 9: Lietkabelis - Zalgiris 66-70

The biggest surprise of round 9 took place in Panevezys where guest Zalgiris (#1) beat lower ranked Lietkabelis (#2) by 4 points 70-66 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lietkabelis. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Zalgiris dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Lietkabelis' 20. Zalgiris forced 20 Lietkabelis turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international Paulius Jankunas (205-84) who scored 17 points. Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 10 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was international Adas Juskevicius (194-89) who recorded 16 points and Latvian swingman Zanis Peineris (203-90) added 17 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Zalgiris (11-1) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place. Lietkabelis at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face P.Zvaigzdes (#5) in Pasvalys in the next round. Lietkabelis will play on the road against Neptunas in Klaipeda and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
