Regular Season Round 14: Toyama Grouses - Toshiba BT 85-88

A very close game took place in Toyama between Toshiba Thunders and Toyama Grouses. Third ranked Toshiba Thunders (11-6) got a very close victory on the road over second-ranked Toyama Grouses (7-10). Toshiba Thunders managed to escape with a 3-point win 88-85 in the game for the third place. Toshiba Thunders dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Toyama Grouses' 40. American power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) notched 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and international point guard Yuma Fujii (178-91) supported him with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Even 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by American Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) did not help to save the game for Toyama Grouses. His fellow American import forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) added 17 points and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Toshiba Thunders maintains third position with 11-6 record having just three points less than leader Ryukyu GK, which they share with Hitachi SR. Loser Toyama Grouses dropped to the third place with ten games lost. They share the position with San-en and Tochigi Brex. Toshiba Thunders will meet at home Hitachi Sunrockers (#4) in the next round. Toyama Grouses will play against Shiga L-Stars and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
