Regular Season Round 9: Zalgiris - Anadolu Efes 91-83
Date: November 23, 2017
16th ranked Turkish Anadolu Efes (2-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 91-83 loss to leader Lithuanian Zalgiris (0-0) in Kaunas on Thursday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-83. Zalgiris made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) who scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Paulius Jankunas (205-84) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Zalgiris' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Armenian center Bryant Dunston (203-86) who recorded 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks and American guard Josh Adams (188-93, college: Wyoming) added 15 points and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) respectively. Five Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Zalgiris went down to first position due to points difference, which they share with 31 other teams. Loser Anadolu Efes dropped to the fifteenth place with seven games lost. Zalgiris will face Maccabi T-A (#5) in Tel-Aviv in the next round. Anadolu Efes will play at home against Armani Milano (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
