Regular Season Round 5: TTT Riga - Gorzow Wlkp. 86-85

Fourth-ranked Polish AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski (0-5) was very close to win a game against leader Latvian TTT Riga (5-0) on Thursday. TTT Riga managed to secure only one-point victory 86-85. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 22-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski outrebounded TTT Riga 36-22 including a 22-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Allyson Malott (190-92, college: Dayton, agency: Interperformances) saved the victory by scoring 27 points. Her fellow American import guard Sheylani Peddy (170-88, college: Temple, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American center Carolyn Swords (198-89, college: Boston Coll., agency: LBM Management) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and Russian-Belarusian forward Yuliya Rytsikava (181-86) added 21 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski. Four AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski players scored in double figures. TTT Riga have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending Latvian champion maintains first place in Group A with 5-0 record. Loser AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski still closes the standings with five games lost. TTT Riga will face league's second-placed Olympiacos in Pireus in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski will play at home against Besiktas and hopes to get finally their first victory.
