Regular Season Round 9: Shumen - Chavdar 104-95

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Chavdar (4-3) against sixth ranked Shumen (2-5) on Sunday night. Visiting Chavdar was defeated by Shumen in a tough game in Shumen 95-104. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Chavdar's 34. They outrebounded Chavdar 44-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Shumen looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Chavdar's players. Swingman Anton Dikov (191-94) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners and point guard Miroslav Denchev (180-97) chipped in 20 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Kiril Raykov (197-87) with 31 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Tsenko Nakov (185-87) scored 24 points and 7 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shumen maintains sixth place in A with 2-5 record. Loser Chavdar keeps the second position with three games lost. Shumen will face higher ranked Chernomorets (#5) in Burgas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chavdar will play on the road against the league's leader UE Varna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
