Regular Season Round 5: Al Rayyan - Al Khor 72-83

The biggest surprise of round 5 in D1 was guest Al Khor's (2-3) road victory over 6th ranked Al Rayyan (1-4) 83-72 on Sunday evening. Al Khor looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward DJ Blackmon (201-90, college: Lenoir-Rhyne) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. His fellow American import center Khobi Williamson (201-92, college: Hampden-Sydney) chipped in a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds. American forward Stephen Hurt (211-93, college: Kansas St.) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and the former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) added 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al Khor moved-up to sixth place. Al Rayyan lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Al Khor will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
