Regular Season Round 9: Kymis - Aris 94-69
Date: December 16, 2017
There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Kymis (3-6) smashed at home 10th ranked Aris (3-6) 94-69 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-69. Kymis shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 56.7 percentage. The best player for the winners was American guard Thaddus McFadden (188-87, college: Fairmont St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) who scored 29 points. His fellow American import guard Lenzelle Smith-Jr (193-91, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four Kymis players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Ioannis Athineou (194-88, agency: Octagon Europe) who recorded 19 points and the former international forward Panagiotis Vasilopoulos (202-84) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Kymis. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Aris. Aris lost their third game in a row. Kymis will face Cretan Kings (#11) in Rethymno in the next round.
