Regular Season Round 14: Phoenix Hagen - Heidelberg 70-80

Date: December 17, 2017
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when seventh ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (9-5) won against on the road 6th ranked Phoenix Hagen (8-5) 80-70 on Sunday. MLP Academics Heidelberg looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American swingman Shy Ely (193-87, college: Evansville, agency: Diamond Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 6 assists. Center Niklas Ney (208-95, college: Mercer) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. American center Alex Herrera (206-92, college: Fort Lewis, agency: Two Points) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import guard James Reid (190-94, college: Boise St.) added 9 points and 6 assists in the effort for Phoenix Hagen. Phoenix Hagen's coach Kevin Magdowski rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. MLP Academics Heidelberg have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Phoenix Hagen dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg will face Uni Baskets (#12) in Paderborn in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Phoenix Hagen will play on the road against the league's leader Crailsheim Merlins (#1) and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the BBL just one year after relegation.
