Regular Season Round 8: Al Gharafa - Al Rayyan 99-89

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Al Gharafa as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Al Gharafa defeated 7th ranked Al Rayyan in Doha 99-89. Al Gharafa looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was international forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. American point guard James Justice (178-89, college: Martin Methodist) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 assists. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists and American guard Sherwood Brown (193-91, college: FGCU) added 17 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Qatar Club and Al Arabi. Al Rayyan at the other side keeps the seventh place with six games lost. Al Rayyan will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Al Gharafa will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Al Arabi. It will be extra interesting game as Al Arabi is their local rival from Doha.
