Regular Season Round 17: Shanghai - Shenyang 96-79

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Shenyang Golden Lions (6-11) were defeated on the road by third ranked Shanghai Dahua (13-4) 96-79 on Monday. Shanghai Dahua dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Shenyang Golden Lions' 38 and made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Shenyang Golden Lions 34-20 including 21 on the defensive glass. Shanghai Dahua looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Breanna Stewart (193-94, college: Connecticut) who scored 51 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!). Power forward Huan Huan (185-90) chipped in 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Shanghai Dahua's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Shuang Zhao (188-90) produced 14 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and power forward Shuai Liu (194-96) added 16 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Four Shenyang Golden Lions players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Shanghai Dahua. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Beijing and Xinjiang. Loser Shenyang Golden Lions keep the eleventh place with 11 games lost. Shanghai Dahua will face Bayi Kylin (#5) in Yinzhou in the next round. Shenyang Golden Lions will play at home against the league's leader Xinjiang (#1) and hope to win that game.
