Regular Season Round 15: Elitzur Ramla - Maccabi Ashdod 72-73

The most exciting game of round 15 in the D1 took place in Ramla. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked Elitzur Ramla (8-7) to first ranked Maccabi Ashdod (12-3) 73-72 on Thursday evening. Maccabi Ashdod dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Elitzur Ramla's 20. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Chelsea Hopkins (173-90, college: San Diego St.) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Her fellow American import power forward Tiffany Jackson (191-85, college: Texas) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. Five Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Kenyan-Canadian power forward Adut Bulgak (193-92, college: Florida St., agency: ProDep Management) who recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and the former international forward Eloisa Katz (183-91) added 24 points and 5 assists respectively. Maccabi Ashdod have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 12-3 record. Newly promoted Elitzur Ramla dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Hap.Petah Tikva and Maccabi Raanana. Maccabi Ashdod are looking forward to face Maccabi Ramat Gan (#3) in Ramat Hen in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Elitzur Ramla will play on the road against Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
