Regionalliga top team - Speyer (13-1) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat twelfth ranked Mainz (4-10) 86-76. Speyer dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mainz's 30. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for Spanish point guard Jordi Salto (190-90) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. American guard Jordan Rezendes (188, college: Mass.-Dartmouth) helped adding 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Four Speyer players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Philipp Schoen (196-87) with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American point guard Kewan Beebe (183, college: Geneseo St.) scored 23 points and 5 steals. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Speyer. They maintain first place in South-West with 13-1 record, which they share with Schwenningen. Loser Mainz keeps the twelfth position with ten games lost. Speyer will face Limburg (#15) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Mainz will play against Tuebingen II and hope to win that game.
