Regular Season Round 5: Hong Kong ELL - Saigon H. 115-121

The most surprising game was the first loss of Hong Kong Hong Kong ELL (7-1) at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Vietnamese Saigon Heat (3-2) 121-115. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Hong Kong ELL. Saigon Heat made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Strangely Hong Kong ELL outrebounded Saigon Heat 58-37 including a 25-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Saigon Heat made 7 blocks. American Michael Williams (-91) stepped up and scored 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) chipped in 29 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). Scott is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Filipino-German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-89, college: Hawaii) responded with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds and American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) produced a triple-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Saigon Heat moved-up to fifth place. Hong Kong ELL at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Saigon Heat are looking forward to face higher ranked Chongson (#4) in Nanhai in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hong Kong ELL will have a break next round.
