Regular Season Round 5: Alab Pilipinas - Singapore S. 80-90

Date: January 10, 2018
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Manila where 5th ranked Filipino Alab Pilipinas (3-4) were defeated by sixth ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (4-5) 90-80. Singapore Slingers made 20-of-26 charity shots (76.9 percent) during the game. American power forward Christien Charles (216-81, college: Villanova) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) contributed with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals for the winners. American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina, agency: Aspire Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks and American forward Justin Brownlee (197-88, college: St.John's) added 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Alab Pilipinas. Four Alab Pilipinas players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Singapore Slingers moved-up to third place. Alab Pilipinas at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Singapore Slingers' next round opponent will be CLS Knights (#7) in Surabaya. Alab Pilipinas will play on the road against the league's second-placed Mono Vampire in Bangkok and hope to win that game.
