Regular Season Round 9: Tartu Ulikool - P.Zvaigzdes 80-74

Undefeated Lithuanian P.Zvaigzdes (7-1) recorded its first loss on the court of third ranked Estonian Tartu Ulikool on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Tartu Ulikool 80-74. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of P.Zvaigzdes. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But P.Zvaigzdes won fourth quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tartu Ulikool made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by P.Zvaigzdes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Janar Talts (206-83) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Kristjan Kitsing (205-90, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 19 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Four Tartu Ulikool players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Latvian guard Arturs Ausejs (192-90) who recorded 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Ukrainian forward Vyacheslav Bobrov (203-92) added 18 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Tartu Ulikool (6-3) moved-up to second place. P.Zvaigzdes at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. Tartu Ulikool will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. P.Zvaigzdes will play at home against Valmiera and are hoping to win this game.
