Regular Season Round 14: Balkan - Spartak Pleven 106-76

Bottom-ranked Spartak Pleven is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their 13th consecutive match to third ranked Balkan (9-3) 106-76 on Saturday evening. The game without a history. Balkan led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Spartak Pleven's 26. Balkan forced 21 Spartak Pleven turnovers and outrebounded them 40-19 including a 13-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Serbian center Igor Kesar (210-92, agency: Mansfield and Associates) notched 23 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international swingman Hristo Zahariev (197-90) supported him with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Balkan's coach Nebojsa Vidic felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 21 points and 8 rebounds by forward Konstantin Koev (196-91) did not help to save the game for Spartak Pleven. Guard Gerasim Nikolov (188-93) added 17 points and 4 assists for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Balkan moved-up to second place. Loser Spartak Pleven still closes the standings with 13 games lost. Balkan will meet Beroe (#6) in the next round. Spartak Pleven will play against Levski 2014 and hopes to get finally their first victory.
