Regular Season Round 12: AEK - Panathinaikos 74-94
Date: January 14, 2018
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Panathinaikos (#1) and AEK (#6). AEK was smashed at home by 20 points 74-94 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game without a history. Panathinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. The best player for the winners was international point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) who scored 19 points and 6 assists. American James Gist (206-86) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Manny Harris (196-89, college: Michigan) who recorded 17 points and 6 rebounds and international Dusan Sakota (210-86, agency: BeoBasket) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos (12-0) have an impressive 12-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with a perfect record of 12 victories in a row. AEK at the other side keeps the sixth place with six games lost. They share the position with Kolossos HH and Cretan Kings. Panathinaikos are looking forward to face Lavrio (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. AEK will play against Kymis and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
