Important game to mention about took place in Alexandria. Third ranked Alexandria (8-5) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 8th ranked Timisoara (5-9) 72-69 on Wednesday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Timisoara won fourth quarter 18-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Alexandria forced 19 Timisoara turnovers. Timisoara was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for Nigerian guard Promise Amukamara (173-93, college: Arizona St.) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. The former international center Georgiana Rus (189-87) accounted for 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. American center Leeza Burdgess (194-90, college: La Salle) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import guard Maegan Conwright (173-92, college: Florida St.) added 15 points and 6 assists respectively for Timisoara in the defeat. Timisoara's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Alexandria maintains third place with 8-5 record having just 8 victories less than leader Sf.Gheorghe, which they share with Olimpia Brasov. Timisoara lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. Alexandria will play against ICIM Arad (#7) on the road in the next round. Timisoara will play against Alba Iulia and hopes to get back on the winning track.
