Regular Season Round 7: Hong Kong ELL - Formosa D. 99-79

ASEAN League top team - Hong Kong Hong Kong ELL (8-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Taiwanese Formosa D. (1-8) 99-79. Hong Kong ELL dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Formosa D.'s 42 and made 22-of-28 charity shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Hong Kong ELL forced 20 Formosa D. turnovers and outrebounded them 52-41 including 16 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Formosa D. was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Filipino-German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-89, college: Hawaii) helped adding 25 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Four Hong Kong ELL players scored in double figures. At the losing side American Lenny Daniel (203-87, college: CS Northridge) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and Salvadorean-American center Ronnie Aguilar (216-87, college: CS Dominguez H.) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hong Kong ELL maintains first place with 8-1 record. Formosa D. lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Hong Kong ELL will play against CLS Knights (#8) in Surabaya in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Formosa D. will play on the road against the league's second-placed Mono Vampire in Bangkok to get more than just one victory in their record.
