Regular Season Round 14: Thor AK - Tindastoll 72-77

Date: January 18, 2018
There was no surprise in Akureyri where 11th ranked Thor AK (3-11) was defeated by fourth ranked Tindastoll (10-4) 77-72 on Thursday. Thor AK trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 22-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 72-77 at the end of the game. Thor AK was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was international guard Petur Birgisson (185-96) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. American forward Antonio Hester (198-90, college: Mobile, AL) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. Hester is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Tindastoll players scored in double figures. American forward Nino Johnson (206-93, college: SE Missouri St.) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and guard Hilmar Henningsson (194-0) added 13 points respectively for the hosts. Thor AK's coach Hjalti Vilhjalmsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tindastoll moved-up to second place, which they share with Haukar and KR. Loser Thor AK keeps the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Tindastoll will face Grindavik (#6) at home in the next round. Thor AK will play against Hottur (#12) in Egilsstadir and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
