Regular Season Round 20: Cordobasket - Jaguarzo Adepla 72-79

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Jaguarzo Adepla (5-9) defeated on the road higher ranked Cordobasket (7-7) 79-72 on Saturday. Cordobasket was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The best player for the winners was American forward David Atkinson (203-91, college: Salem Intern.) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Forward David Espadina (196-93) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Jaguarzo Adepla players scored in double figures. American guard Ishmael Sanders (188, college: Carson-Newman) produced 42 points (!!!) and 4 steals and Venezuelan forward Albert Arias (194-89) added 14 points and 18 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Cordobasket's coach Rafael Sanz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Jaguarzo Adepla moved-up to eighth place in Group D-B, which they share with San Fernando. Loser Cordobasket keeps the third position with seven games lost. Jaguarzo Adepla will face higher ranked San Juan (#7) in San Juan del Puerto in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cordobasket will play on the road against Benahavis (#6) and hope to win that game.
