Regular Season Round 16: Sokol Pisek - GBA Sparta 87-80

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked GBA Sparta (7-9) lost on the road to eighth ranked Sokol Pisek (9-7) 87-80 on Sunday. Sokol Pisek dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to GBA Sparta's 34 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Sokol Pisek forced 20 GBA Sparta turnovers. It was a very good performance for swingman Petr Slechta (192-95) who helped to win the game recording 38 points (!!!). International center Dalibor Fait (203-93) contributed with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Marek Welsch (180-99) replied with 22 points and 8 rebounds and Slovakian guard Milan Janosov (192-99) added 14 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for GBA Sparta. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. Sokol Pisek have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place in West, which they share with Nymburk B. GBA Sparta at the other side dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Sokol Pisek will face Sokol Zizkov (#10) in Praha in the next round where they are favorite. GBA Sparta will play on the road against Nymburk B and hope to win that game.
