Regular Season Round 19: Heidelberg - Phoenix Hagen 78-57

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Phoenix Hagen (9-10) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (11-8) 78-57 on Monday. American forward Evan McGaughey (203-94, college: Quincy, agency: Slash Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Naturalized Russian forward Albert Kuppe (200-88) chipped in 16 points. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. MLP Academics Heidelberg's coach Branislav Ignjatovic felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Alex Herrera (206-92, college: Fort Lewis, agency: Two Points) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and swingman Jonas Grof (201-96, college: High School) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. MLP Academics Heidelberg maintains fifth place with 11-8 record. Phoenix Hagen lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with ten games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg will face higher ranked Koeln Rh.Stars (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Phoenix Hagen will play against Chemnitz (#11) and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the BBL just one year after relegation.
