There was an upset in Athens where 4th placed Doxa Lefkadas (9-6) was crushed by twelfth ranked Papagou (5-10) 78-58 on Saturday. Papagou dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Doxa Lefkadas' 20. Papagou had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Doxa Lefkadas' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Papagou made 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was center Petros Melissaratos (205-93) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 8 blocks (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Power forward Panagiotis Filippakos (203-94) chipped in 22 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Nikos Liakopoulos (188-83) who recorded 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Vaggelis Tzolos (192-91) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Papagou maintains twelfth place with 5-10 record. Loser Doxa Lefkadas keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Papagou's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Doukas.
