Regular Season Round 19: Fjolnir - IA 107-51
Date: January 29, 2018
Bottom-ranked IA (0-17) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 107-51 loss to sixth ranked Fjolnir (8-9) in Reykjavik on Monday evening. The game without a history. Fjolnir led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They were well out of reach of IA shooting 83.2 percent from the field and made 93-of-99 free shots (93.9 percent) during the game, while IA only scored 52 points from the stripe. Fjolnir forced 26 IA turnovers and outrebounded them 86-62 including a 54-38 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 61 long-distance shots on high 84.7 percentage. Fjolnir looked well-organized offensively handing out 46 assists comparing to just 25 passes made by IA's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fjolnir made 10 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Sam Prescott (190-90, college: Mt.St.Mary's, agency: SDJ Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). Forward Sigvaldi Eggertsson (197-0) helped adding 21 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side center Jon Kristjansson (197-83) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds and forward Sigurdur Sigurdsson (198-88) scored 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Fjolnir maintains sixth place with 8-9 record. Loser IA still closes the standings. Fjolnir will meet league's leader Skallagrimur in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. IA will play against Hamar (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
