Regular Season Round 29: CSKA 2 - MBA Moscow 91-85

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Moscow: CSKA 2 (#4) and MBA Moscow (#10). Despite it looked like an easy game for CSKA 2, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Guest MBA Moscow challenged much higher ranked CSKA 2 giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by six points 91-85. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of MBA Moscow. CSKA 2 made 30-of-34 charity shots (88.2 percent) during the game, while MBA Moscow only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded MBA Moscow 39-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. 27 personal fouls committed by MBA Moscow helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international forward Anton Astapkovich (202-94) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and naturalized Belarusian Mikhail Maleyko (206-96) accounted for 12 points and 7 rebounds. Pavel Afanasiev (201-96) came up with 22 points and guard Stanislav Kraynov (193-90) added 16 points respectively for MBA Moscow in the defeat. Five CSKA 2 and four MBA Moscow players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted CSKA 2 maintains fourth place with 18-10 record. MBA Moscow at the other side keeps the tenth position with 16 games lost. CSKA 2's next round opponent will be Novosybirsk (#7) on the road. MBA Moscow will play against the league's second-placed Samara-SGEU and hope to win that game.
