Regular Season Round 19: Valur - Thor Thorl 95-86

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Reykjavik where tenth ranked Valur (6-13) defeated 9th ranked Thor Thorl (7-12) 95-86. It looked good early as Thor Thorl took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Valur had a 30-14 second period charge getting the lead and Thor Thorl was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 86-95. They outrebounded Thor Thorl 49-30 including a 40-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Valur players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Urald King (198-90, college: SE Oklahoma) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks. Illugi Steingrimsson (192) accounted for 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Valur's coach Agust Bjorgvinsson used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Halldor Hermannsson (188-97) came up with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American point guard Chaz Williams (175-91, college: Massachusetts, agency: Interperformances) added 21 points, 7 assists and 5 steals respectively for Thor Thorl in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Valur maintains tenth place with 6-13 record. Thor Thorl at the other side keeps the ninth position with 12 games lost. Valur will play against Thor AK (#11) in Akureyri in the next round. Thor Thorl will play at home against Hottur and hopes to get back on the winning track.
