Regular Season Round 25: IA - Breidablik 66-140
Date: March 2, 2018
Bottom-ranked IA (0-22) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 140-66 loss to second ranked Breidablik (16-6) in Akranes on Friday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Breidablik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to IA's 32. Breidablik forced 25 IA turnovers and outrebounded them 50-24 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 56.7 percentage. Breidablik looked well-organized offensively handing out 41 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by IA's players. American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and guard Erlendur Stefansson (190-95, college: Black Hills St.) chipped in 25 points and 4 assists. Five Breidablik players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Marcus Dewberry (183, college: St.Leo) responded with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and center Jon Kristjansson (197-83) scored 4 points and 9 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Breidablik maintains second place with 16-6 record having just three points less than leader Skallagrimur, which they share with Hamar. IA lost their twenty second game in a row. They still close the standings. Breidablik will meet at home league's leader Skallagrimur in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. IA will play against Vestri (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
