Regular Season Round 21: Le Portel - Monaco 72-73

Eleventh-ranked Le Portel (9-12) made lots of trouble for third ranked Monaco (15-6) on Friday. The visitors from Monaco managed to secure only one-point victory 73-72. However their fans expected much easier game. Le Portel was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 22-13 charge of Monaco, which allowed them to win the game. American point guard Gerald Robinson (185-89, college: Georgia) stepped up and scored 20 points for the winners and the former international power forward Ali Traore (207-85, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American power forward Franklin Hassell (205-88, college: ODU) with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 19 rebounds and the other American import guard Trae Golden (189-91, college: Georgia Tech) scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Monaco keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Strasbourg. Le Portel lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the twelfth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Monaco will meet at home JDA Dijon (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Le Portel will play against Cholet Basket (#9) and hope to secure a win.
