Regular Season Round 40: Fukuoka Rizing - Sendai 89ers 106-58
Date: March 3, 2018
There was no surprise when 3rd ranked Sendai 89ers (16-23) were outplayed on the road by first ranked Fukuoka Rizing (31-8) 106-58 on Saturday. Fukuoka Rizing dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Sendai 89ers' 28. It was a great shooting night for Fukuoka Rizing especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 60.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 38 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Sendai 89ers' players. Worth to mention a great performance of American Eric Jacobsen (208-94, college: Arizona St.) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Josh Peppers (201-85, college: Cent.Florida) who added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Fukuoka Rizing players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Ryunosuke Yanagawa (187-91) responded with 15 points and 4 assists and U.S. Virgin Islands center Craig Williams (206-89, college: TCU) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Newly promoted Fukuoka Rizing maintains first position with 31-8 record. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the third place with 23 games lost. Fukuoka Rizing will face again Sendai 89ers (#4) at home in the next round.
