Regular Season Round 13: Westports MD - Alab Pilipinas 90-89

The most exciting game of round 13 in the ASEAN League took place in Kuala Lumpur. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Filipino Alab Pilipinas (11-5) to seventh ranked Malaysian Westports MD (5-10) 90-89 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of Alab Pilipinas. Westports MD made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game, while Alab Pilipinas only scored ten points from the stripe. Strangely Alab Pilipinas outrebounded Westports MD 51-36 including 16 on the offensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Alab Pilipinas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Chris Eversley (201-91, college: Cal Poly - SLO) who helped to win the game recording 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Joshua Munzon (191-95, college: CS Los Angeles) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Westports MD players scored in double figures. American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) answered with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds and American forward Justin Brownlee (197-88, college: St.John's) added 25 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks in the effort for Alab Pilipinas. Westports MD maintains seventh place with 5-10 record. Alab Pilipinas at the other side keep the third position with five games lost. Westports MD are looking forward to face higher ranked Saigon Heat (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alab Pilipinas will play against Chongson in Nanhai and are hoping to win this game.
